First full day started with an explorative walk to Whole Foods at 97th and Amsterdam. The plan was was to have a delivery of all the heavy items and dry goods. NYC is so densely populated that Whole Foods only delivers within a 10 block distance. Whole Foods in Kensington delivers throughtout Kensington and Chelsea. Alas, we had to revert to a rather down in the mouth Gristedes which did willingly deliver right to the front door. We continued walking in beautiful Indian summer sunshine and then bought our MTA passes and hopped on the M 104 bus at 72nd for the short and very slow trip to Lincoln Center. Lunch was at a tired Alehouse on Amsterdam. On the walk home we passed Pure Yoga on 77th which Sydney introduced me to many moons ago. It is a very seductive place and I was seduced. The American Airlines flight to JFK was chosen over our usual BA flight to save 500 british pounds ( can't find the symbol on this new US keyboard) . Same plane, same seats, slightly different departure time but big price difference. Good reason to switch loyalty. The service was not as formal nor attentive as provided by BA staff, but the food was equally bland. Weirdly given how TSA conscious the USA government and population are about safety, I found the AA security demands pretty lax. The initial security announcement hasn't been changed in 25 years and the demand to stay buckled in when the seat belt light is alluminated was disregarded by passengers and staff throughout the flight. Babies walking in the aisles and toilets in use while the plane bobbled in turbelence. We leave tomorrow for our, almost, two month experiment in New York. What seemed interesting and distant and unthreatening approaches. Sure hope the bed is worth walking up 4 floors. I have established a Citarella account and probably packed too much of the wrong thing and not nearly enough of the other. Onward.
